Cabinet approves two new semiconductor units worth Rs. 3,936 crore under India Semiconductor Mission

by admin

The Union Cabinet has approved two new semiconductor manufacturing units worth ₹3,936 crore under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), marking a fresh push to turn India into a global chip‑making hub. Both projects will be set up in Gujarat and are expected to generate around 2,230 skilled jobs once fully operational. The first unit, led by Crystal Matrix Limited (CML), will build an integrated compound‑semiconductor fabrication and assembly facility in Dholera. This will be India’s first commercial mini/micro‑LED display plant using Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, which is crucial for advanced TV and commercial displays, tablets, smartphones, in‑car systems, and XR (extended‑reality) glasses.

The second unit, by Suchi Semicon Private Limited, will set up an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) plant in Surat for discrete semiconductors. It will produce over 1,000 million chips a year, targeting power electronics, analog ICs, automotive, industrial automation, and consumer‑electronics markets. With these two projects, the total number of approved ISM semiconductor projects rises to 12, with cumulative investments of about ₹1.64 lakh crore.
