Archibald announces £2 million in advanced manufacturing skills

by admin

Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald has announced a £2 million investment to boost skills development in Northern Ireland’s advanced manufacturing sector. The funding, provided by the UK Government, is part of the larger £150 million Enhanced Investment Zone (EIZ) programme for Northern Ireland and aims to help the sector grow, innovate, and compete globally.

This new £2 million programme for 2026/27 builds on a successful small skills pilot that already showed strong results for businesses. It will work closely with industry leaders to identify the exact skills needed to improve productivity and drive growth in advanced manufacturing. The investment is expected to deliver over 400 Level 3–7 qualifications across key areas including: Engineering, Core sciences, Digital skills and Business (including leadership and management)

Beyond training, the programme will provide targeted support to businesses, helping them improve productivity, adopt new technologies, and compete more effectively in the market.

Minister Archibald said: “This further £2 million investment in advanced manufacturing skills builds on this strong start and ensures more companies right across the north can benefit”. Further announcements and the formal launch of the Enhanced Investment Zone are planned for later in 2026. The initiative will help Northern Ireland’s manufacturing sector address skills gaps, increase adoption of new technologies, and strengthen its competitive position in the global market.
