Sheikh Mohammed Launches Ambitious Drive to Make UAE the World’s Capital of Entrepreneurship

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has unveiled a bold new initiative aimed at positioning the UAE as the “Startup Capital of the World,” targeting 10,000 new Emirati entrepreneurs and the creation of 30,000 jobs by 2030. The campaign brings together over 50 public and private sector organizations, offering comprehensive support including mentorship, investment, co-working spaces, and advanced training. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the vital role of young innovators, urging them to “build their own companies, drive economic growth, and seize opportunities the UAE economy offers”.

Already, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) contribute more than 63% to the UAE’s non-oil GDP, reflecting the critical importance of entrepreneurship to the nation’s rapidly diversifying economy.

Empowering UAE Youth and Innovators

Central to the new drive is StartupEmirates.ae, a digital platform designed to deliver practical training, mentoring, and networking for budding entrepreneurs across all backgrounds. The campaign also includes specialized programs such as beginner and advanced entrepreneurship courses, a project management experts track, and training content creators in business fields. There are also initiatives to support young talent in real estate, tax certification, and construction management, providing diverse opportunities for youth to develop real-world skills.

University and graduate business expos will connect students with investors and accelerators, while partnerships with government help startups access markets and tenders.

UAE’s Rising Global Reputation

The UAE currently ranks as the top destination for entrepreneurship among high-income nations, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, and has repeatedly led global indices for SME support and business-friendly environments. With investments exceeding AED 8.7 billion for innovation and over 50 incubators nationwide, the country’s robust infrastructure and business incentives underpin its vision for a vibrant startup ecosystem.

Sheikh Mohammed’s national call-to-action underscores the UAE’s determination to empower youth, attract global talent, and build a future where new ideas easily become thriving enterprises. The ultimate goal is for the UAE to be recognized as the global hub where entrepreneurs from all backgrounds turn their dreams into successful businesses.
