Nigeria has launched the National Public Sector Solarization Initiative (NPSSI), powered by N100 billion of government funding. This bold project aims to install solar power systems in public institutions across the country, including schools, hospitals, security posts, and government offices. The move is designed to replace expensive and polluting diesel generators with clean and reliable solar energy, supporting both essential services and rural communities.
Strong Partnerships and Smart Funding
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is leading the effort with support from key partners such as the Budget Office, Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (InfraCorp), and the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI). The initial phase is fully funded by the government, while later stages will involve a mix of public and private investment—making sure the plan is sustainable and doesn’t rely solely on government resources. This collaboration brings together public agencies and private sector experts, aiming to localise solar energy technology and create new business opportunities within Nigeria.
