Bengaluru is set to get India’s first Museum of Innovation and Startup Technology, or MIST, a Rs 300-crore public-private project that aims to celebrate the country’s startup story. The design will be led by Heneghan Peng Architects, the global firm behind the Grand Egyptian Museum, alongside Bengaluru-based Cadence Architects and DROO Da Costa Mahindroo Architects.
The museum will come up on a portion of the unused NGEF campus in Baiyappanahalli, a 105-acre site in Bengaluru that already has nearly 65 acres of green cover. The project will reuse an old switchgear factory shed and transform it into a world-class museum complex.
According to the plan, the Karnataka Technology Innovation Museum Foundation has been created to execute the project. It is a public-private partnership between the UnboxingBLR Foundation, which holds 51%, and the Karnataka Department of Electronics, IT, BT and Science & Technology, which holds 49%.
The museum will also be linked to Innoverse, a deep-tech startup incubator and partnership hub that will sit alongside the museum. Karnataka IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge said the project will help preserve the state’s innovation journey and strengthen Bengaluru’s position as India’s technology capital.
The first phase of MIST is expected to open in 2028. With global architects and local partners working together, the project is being positioned as both a cultural landmark and a showcase of India’s startup ecosystem.
