Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proposed six new global initiatives at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, saying that Indian civilisational values can guide inclusive and sustainable progress for all. Speaking at sessions on inclusive growth and a resilient world, the Prime Minister linked development with values like sustainability, cooperation and respect for nature. He stressed that Africa’s development is vital for global progress and welcomed the African Union’s participation in the G20.

The six proposals include a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative, Global Healthcare Response Team, an Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus, an Open Satellite Data Partnership and a Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative. These initiatives aim to promote sustainable living, support youth skilling, improve health emergency response, fight narco-terror, share satellite data and secure critical mineral supply chains.

Modi underlined that traditional and eco-friendly lifestyles, long practised in India and other cultures, can help the world tackle climate change and social stress. He said India stands with the Global South, especially Africa, and wants growth that is human-centric and leaves no region behind.

Under the Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative, the goal is to train one million certified trainers in Africa over the next decade, who will then skill millions of youth. The Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative will promote recycling, urban mining and second-life batteries to support clean energy transitions and stronger supply chains.
