India’s Smartphone Exports Surge 39% in August

India’s smartphone exports recorded a robust 39% year-on-year growth in August, reaching $1.53 billion (about ₹13,580 crore) compared to the same month last year. According to the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), this sharp rise highlights India’s increasing role in the global smartphone market. Experts say the growth is a result of better manufacturing, government support, and increasing global demand for Indian-made phones.

US Market Leads the Demand

Exports to the United States contributed significantly to this growth, with shipments more than doubling—from $388 million in August 2024 to $965 million in August 2025, marking a rise of 148%. Industry sources explain that the US remains India’s largest export destination for smartphones, fueled partly by strong demand for new models and supply chain adjustments by global brands. The period from April to August 2025 saw US-bound exports reaching $8.43 billion, about 80% of what India exported to the US in the previous full financial year.

Positive Impact on Economy and Industry

This export growth benefits not only India’s electronics sector but also the overall economy by improving the trade balance, creating more jobs, and enhancing India’s reputation as a reliable global manufacturing hub. The industry expects exports to rise further during upcoming festive and holiday seasons, as manufacturers ramp up production to meet both global and domestic demand.
