India produced a memorable performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning gold in the women’s 4x400m relay on Tuesday. The Indian quartet of Kiran Pahal, M.R. Poovamma, Prachi Choudhary and Vithya Ramraj clocked 3:29.69 to secure the top position.
The race saw India fight strongly throughout the four legs. After Kiran Pahal’s opening run, Poovamma Machettira helped move India into contention before Prachi Choudhary kept the team in a strong position. Vithya Ramraj then produced a determined final leg to hold off Bahrain and bring the baton home for gold.
Bahrain finished second in 3:30.21, while China took bronze in 3:31.02. India’s victory also marked the country’s first athletics gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games.
The gold was a significant moment for the Indian athletics contingent and added another medal to the country’s successful campaign in Nagoya. For Poovamma, the victory was also another landmark in her Asian Games career, having previously been part of India’s gold-winning relay teams in 2014 and 2018.
India’s women’s 4x400m relay team delivered a composed and determined performance when it mattered most, finishing the race at the top of the podium on 29 September 2026.
