Abu Dhabi to Open First Battery-Swapping Station for Electric Motorbikes

by admin

Abu Dhabi is advancing its green transport goals with the launch of the UAE’s first battery-swapping station for electric motorbikes. Developed by ADNOC Distribution and Terra Tech Ltd., the facility opened at a flagship ADNOC service station, allowing riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones in just seconds. This innovation targets last-mile delivery riders, cutting downtime and emissions while boosting efficiency for the growing electric bike fleet in the capital.

The station supports Abu Dhabi’s target of making 50% of vehicles electric by 2040, aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategy. Delivery operations, a key sector in the city, will benefit from reduced fuel costs and zero tailpipe emissions, transforming urban logistics into a cleaner process. Terra Tech, founded in 2021, specializes in battery-swapping tech and electric vehicles, making this a milestone in regional sustainable mobility.

“Expanding into Abu Dhabi is a pivotal step in our journey to build future-ready electric mobility infrastructure across the UAE,” said Husam Zammar, Founder of Terra Tech Ltd. ADNOC’s nationwide network of service stations provides easy access, bridging traditional energy with electric transport. The initiative could help thousands of riders lower operational costs and carbon footprints, with plans for nationwide rollout.

This launch highlights Abu Dhabi’s commitment to eco-friendly innovations, making electric motorbikes more practical for daily use. As adoption grows, it sets a model for sustainable urban transport in the Middle East.
